Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, the former CEO of Binance, has issued a stark warning about the future of cryptocurrency investors. He predicts that 95% of them will not survive in the long term.
On March 17, CZ responded to an intriguing post by EmperorBTC, a popular crypto influencer on X. EmperorBTC analyzed the mindset of those in the crypto market and asserted that most participants are not prepared for the challenges ahead. He stated, “The bar to succeed in crypto is very low.”
According to EmperorBTC, a staggering 80% of crypto investors are simply “tourists.” These individuals jump into the market when they hear good news and exit when the sentiment shifts. Additionally, he pointed out that over 10% of traders make decisions based on “foolish influencers,” rather than solid analysis.
EmperorBTC also estimated that 5% of investors are merely pretending to be wealthy, leaving only 5% who truly understand cryptocurrencies. CZ echoed these sentiments, indicating that even among this small group, most cannot outperform Bitcoin.
CZ elaborated further. He revealed that of the 5% who are knowledgeable, only 4% actively trade or invest in blockchain projects. However, these traders still struggle to beat the performance of buy-and-hold Bitcoin strategies. In stark contrast, long-term Bitcoin holders represent over 99% of all crypto market participants and tend to outperform most traditional assets with minimal effort.
He emphasized that climbing into the top 1% of crypto investors requires “extraordinary effort, work, and knowledge of the market.” CZ noted, “4% actively trade or work on projects but won’t outperform Bitcoin. Holding BTC surpasses 99% of crypto participants and other asset types, by doing practically nothing.”
CZ’s comments come at a time when Bitcoin is trading at $82,930, facing resistance at $85,000. The digital asset sector is experiencing record outflows, raising concerns about the market’s stability.
As the crypto landscape continues to evolve, the question remains: Can the majority of investors adapt, or will they become another statistic in CZ’s grim forecast?
